I think the handle is the most interesting part of this lunch box. I think it is one of the earliest - and I would date this lunch box to 1953 - the year they were first put out. This is a leather handle - not one of the metal handles. It is cut to fit into two metal holders. This leather handle is original to the lunch box. It is in good condition. No cuts or tears. It does show age from the years. The interior is clean but a bit rusty in places. No thermos is with this lunch box and the thermos holder is missing.
Condition: I find only one minor dent in this lunchbox. It is on one bottom edge and is very small. There is rusting around the edges of the box and the interior. There are also three vintage "nursery rhyme" stickers that the small child who carried this box put on it. I will leave it to the new owner to try to remove them or leave them as part of this boxes history. The stickers are not on the front picture of the lunch box. Two are on the back and one is inside.
This box measures approximately 8 5/8" length x 6 1/4" wide x 3 3/4" deep. It is stamped on the back with "A Product of The American Thermos Bottle Co./Norwich, Conn. U.S.A." .
