Skookum Type Indian Doll Papoose Mailer

This vintage Skookum type Indian Mailer Doll is in excellent condition. He is from the original owner's doll collection. This baby is wrapped in an Indian blanket on a blanket board and measures approximately 3 1/2". He has a black mohair wig, and is wearing a leather headband stamped with red decorations and has a feather in his headband. He has a hand painted face - showing the side glancing eyes (to the right) with thin eyebrows, cute mouth and blushing cheeks.

The mailing tag is attached to the blanket board and is in the shape of an arrowhead. This tag measures approximately 4". The mailing tag reads on one side "Before this message reaches you/From here I must vamoose/A thousand wishes for good luck/I send with this papoose". On the reverse side is the address. This Skookum type papoose mailer was sent from SAUGATUCK, MICH. There is also a postage stamp on the mailer tag.

The face of the baby is smooth and without lines. The lines showing up in the picture are stray hairs that are from his wig.
