This glass dome is tall and thin. I am not sure of its original purpose. There is an article in one of the home magazines (May 2008 issues) on making small terrariums. This piece is perfect for that purpose. It measures 13 1/2" tall and 4 3/4" in diameter at the base. The age is difficult to determine. There are wrinkles in the glass. It has stood upright for many years and the glass has sagged. We women know this happens with our pantie hose. Just take a look at the photos. There are no chips or cracks. This dome would group nicely for a collection of terrariums.
