This pair of dogs measure 12 1/2" tall. They have black noses with lustre surrounding and red mouths. The eyes are painted. The bodies are gilded, worn. There is a vent hole in the bottom of each. One dog has a chip on the front base. The same dog has several age cracks. These are very tight and stable. Both are crazed. This is a great set of matched dogs.

This lovely majolica bowl measures 8 1/2" in diameter and 3 1/4" deep. The inside is the wonderful pink used on majolica. The outside of the bowl is molded shells giving the bowl a scalloped edge. The colors are primarily pink and green. The bottom of the bowl is marked with the circular Etruscan Majolica mark with the Griffin, Smith, and Hill monogram in the middle. This round tin is unusual in that the top comes off and fits in the base to form a pedestal candy dish. The background is black with gold and green. There are 5 large bowls of fruit around the top. This pitcher measures 8" tall. It is referred to as Bird and Basketweave in Katz book on majolica. The bulbous bottom has a brown basketweave design. The middle has greenery with a bird on one side and a butterfly on the other. The basketweave design is repeated. The top is scalloped. The inside is a cream with pinkish tint. This pitcher is antique in spite of its excellent condition.

This large pitcher measures 6 5/8" tall. This pitcher is shown in Katz Encyclopedia of Majolica, page 94. It is called Wild Rose on Tree Bark. The body of the pitcher is brown and looks like tree bark. There are green leaves and pink wild roses on each side of the pitcher. The inside of the pitcher is pale green. There are chips all around the rim of the pitcher. There really don't detract since the pitcher is brown. There is also a tight stable hairline. Nice Decorator Piece.

This is an early majolica pitcher measuring 6" tall. The colors and shape are wonderful. The inside is the desirable pink common to this period of majolica. The handle is a brown rope. There is a rope around the neck. The neck is turquoise. The bulbous body is decorated with bold water lilies. The bottom has an 11. The pitcher shows it age with heavy crazing. There is a chip on the spout. A smaller chip on the base. Nothing radical.

This large majolica pitcher measures 7 3/4" tall. It is decorated with blackberry vines on a tree trunk. The bark is reveals the wood of the tree as if a dead tree. The lavender and green of the blackberries and vine are lovely. The pitcher is not marked. It is crazed but has no chips or cracks. Very nice.

This is a large (13 1/2" tall) group figure Staffordshire piece. It has a man and woman under a grape arbor. It is classified as a Victorian flatback. This is near mint Staffordshire. This shape and subject with varying decoration is pictured on page 100 of Harding's book "Victorian Staffordshire 1875-1962". I believe this is early in this period.

This is a lovely set of 4 flow blue 9" soup plates. The blue is a beautiful flow blue. The edge is scalloped and outlined with beading. The design is embossed with 1/4" scrolls. The soup plates are marked, but the marks are blurred. The pattern is MELBOURNE and the maker is W. H. Grindley. According to Petra Williams "Flow Blue China" this pattern is circa 1900. All four soup plates are crazed. There are no chips or cracks.

There is a script 3 and impressed 0987 in the base. No other marks. The front and back are different. This is in great condition except for one chip on the base.

The only mark is an impressed IVORY from the late 19th century. The platter is English, probably from the Staffordshire area. There is wear appropriate with age. No chips, cracks, or repairs. This Staffordshire Figure has a Scottish Piper, A girl, and a clock face. It measures 13 3/4" tall. This is 19th Century. It is in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks. I suspect there is a professional repair to the piper's neck for there is a difference in the glaze. There is a moulded "x" near the base of the back. Wonderful piece for your collection. You may see this figure on page 411 of Harding's book "Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875".

This piece is pictured on page 327 of Harding's book, "Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-75".
