This Victorian era lap/slope desk (writing box) is outstanding in its decoration and condition. First, it is larger than most measuring 11" x 14 1/2" x 6". The top level folds back. The bottom opens to reveal a velvet writing surface and storage compartments. The decoration is what sets this desk apart. This small purse is papier mache with Mother of Pearl insets in the design. The frame of the purse is brass. It measures 2 1/4" x 3 1/2". The clasp lifts. There are fabric compartments inside. One compartment also has a lift up clasp. There is a piece of paper inside which reads: "1862 From Andrew Gale to Helen Brown Kill in the war." Very good condition.

This small frame is gray metal, presumably silverplate. It has small aqua beads adorning the filigree point design. There is a rope around the center of the frame. The back pulls out in order to insert the photograph. There is an attached stand. The frame measures 3" x 2 1/2". The inside measurement is 1 1/2" x 2". There are no marks. Excellent condition.

The palette measures 8 1/4" x 6". Most unusual.

This small trinket box is marked Made in France. The lid is covered in sea shells. This type box is often referred to as sailor's valentines. They were sold as souvenirs in coastal towns. This early cardboard box is covered with shells and mirrors. It measures 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 3". The top has a red velvet covered pin cushion. There are four small mirrors. The lid is paper hinged. The hinge is intact. The inside of the box is lined in pale blue paper. The condition of this box is outstanding for a shell piece of this age. I see no missing shells. The mirrors have some silver damage.

The mat has considerable water staining. The print seems fine. There is some damage to one end of the frame. The inside measurement of the frame is 7 1/2" x 9 1/2".
