Unusual SILK LINED wood jewelry box that is lavishly pyrographed. This piece is marked on the back "Flemish Art Co. Trade Mark Flemish Quality 88 is Standard New York" The words are impressed within a shield that is flanked by two standing bears. The mark has been partly burned.

This Arts and Crafts American folk art, was often done by ladies in their Victorian parlors and men as "handy work" for gifts. This is a VERY unusual example as it has the mark of this very collectible company and is LAVISHLY decorated on all surfaces. The top was either made a shade darker by the artist or has aged over the years.

The silk lining on the inside of the lid is gathered and is a flat layer on the inside of the bottom. The silk is all in one piece so far with no splits or holes. There ARE spots on the silk that can not be removed. (Priced accordingly) This is a very pale pink silk. It is in excellent condition.

The decoration is done in a full blown rose on top with leaves. The sides have intricate leaves and branches. This is excellent work with attention to detail and MATCHING of pattern where the lid and bottom meet. The hinges are set on the back / outside and are firm and work well. The latch on the front is intricately pressed brass. Works dandy!

This box measures approximately 5.5 x 6 & 1/4 and is 2 & 1/2 inches deep. The work is excellent with no warping. There are some minor signs of wear. Taking into consideration this is a true antique, over 100 years old; it is in EXCELLENT condition.
