Especially for you from Toinette's this is a SUPERIOR example of American folk art. Check my other listings for more unusual pieces of pyrography in my shop under antiques AND collectibles. This is a very unusual example... the top says UTILITY on it. This may have been intended as a sewing box. The stamping is EXCEPTIONAL! This LAVISHLY decorated pyrographed box is circa 1910. It has the word UTILITY burned in a scroll on the lid as well as an intricate display of full blossoming poppies and poppy buds. The background decoration is done in a plaid design. The edges in cross and hatch. The sides are done in a triple diamond design. The inside of the lid has the same elaborate decoration. This is a quite rare example with the "UTILITY" being the only example from an extensive estate collection. On the bottom of the box there is a dedication written in pencil " Lee Vanakin From the Cleaver Sunday School. UNUSED and never colored, this delightful box is a larger example and measures 10 & 1/2 inches x 5 inches and is 1 & 3/4 inches high. The box construction is excellent with no warping. The little brass hinges are firmly in place. Shipping is FREE for regular mail and delivery confirmation in the USA. International rates apply. Insurance always recommended, not paid by the seller.
