This lovely example of American folk art comes from an extensive collection. There are MORE pieces from this estate in my shop under antiques AND collectibles.
This is a signed Victorian jewelry box from the Arts and Crafts era. Rare to find in this condition. This LAVISHLY decorated pyrographed box is circa 1900. It has the word JEWELS burned in a frame on the lid. There is a lavish display of old fashioned roses and poker work. The background of the lid is done in a plaid design. The edges in a wood grain.
The sides, bottom and the inside bottom are done in this same wood grain design. The inside of the lid has the same elaborate decoration.
UNUSED and never colored, this delightful box measures 5 inches x 3 & 1/2 inches and is 2 & 1/2 inches high. The work is excellent with no warping. The little brass hinges are firmly in place.
