Authentic antique American folk art especially for you from Toinette's!
This rare example of American folk art comes from an extensive collection. Please look through the shop for more examples of pyrography (poker art) from this estate.
This VERY DETAILED early pyrographed wooden bowl was made of slats of wood, similar to a whiskey barrel. The slats are bound with a strong metal wire and tacked to the bowl with medal brads. The bottom is one solid piece and is marked by the artist: M.K. 1910 in wood burning. The bottom is one solid piece.
The fruit is modern and was put there by the owner of this collection for display purposes. It measures approximately 4.25 inches tall and is approximately 7.5 inches across.
The slats are decorated with clusters of grapes and leaves and vines in a CONTINUOUS pattern around the bowl. The metal shows patina and could be polished. I suggest the new owner decide if that is appropriate. The slats are in excellent condition, while not as tight now, as when this piece was made 98 years ago.
What a wonderful find for a collector of this genre of American Folk Art, and the only such piece in the collection.
