Big Sale Going On Now!
This is a soulful portrait, about 7 by 8.5 inches, of a tabby cat. It's oil on canvas, with, as you can see, some uniform crackling. It looks like the signature has been rubbed to bring it up, and the canvas is much lighter at the edges underneath the frame. The frame is wood, and measures 6.5 by 8 inches or 9.5 by 11 inches on the outside. It looks like it was a gesso frame, and the gesso has been scraped off. On the back we see the canvas unsecured to the panel underneath, and the painting sitting a little uncomfortably in the frame. That is to say that I don't know if this is the original frame, etc., although it is dirty enough to be. The painting is absolutely authentic. It was painted by Roberto Ramauge (1890-1973,) who can be found on the internet, especially through image searches. His paintings are found in fine arts museums around the world; I believe he was French, but partly South American. Most of his paintings I have seen are of Paris. The subject is perfect. Not a very small painting, this has the detail of a miniature, and was painted by a master. The photography, alas, stinks: this painting is more sombre and more beautiful than shown. This painting is circa 1920.
