This gorgeous little Union Pacific Railroad demitasse cup and saucer set are in the pretty pastel “Desert Flower” pattern. It is almost like a miniature of the larger coffee size cup and saucer. This cup is a tiny 2-1/2 inches tall and 2-3/8 inches across. The little saucer is 4-5/8 inches across.

Both cup and saucer are in absolutely perfect, as new condition. If there are utensil marks or scratches I cannot find them. There is one tiny and insignificant anufacturing flaw – a tiny fleck of extra pottery under the glaze in the well of the saucer -- which was the way it was made. This can't be seen when the cup is displayed in place.

This set was made by Syracuse China. Both cup and saucer are backmarked UNION PACIFIC R.R. The saucer is marked 3-KK (the date code for March, 1956).

Both pieces are a light ivory (not quite white) china over which a pastel green has been airbrushed in a shaded effect. The floral artwork appears on both sides of the cup; the artwork was never put on the saucers which are always plain.

A beautiful set, that would grace any collection of railway passenger dining car china, particularly that of a California or Pacific area collector or a UPRR fan.
