SATISFACTION GUARANTEED ~ Holiday Layaways ~ Multi-Purchase Discounts ~& a 1950s STEIFF TURKEY Looking for a Holiday Table!!
Around the outside the hat is stitched so it has two "rolls" around the front, I am not sure if there is a term for this but the upper one ends in a "tail" giving it a wrapped scarf like effect. A sparkly rhinestone clip anchors the tail where it leaves the hat.
Inside the crown is stamped an outline of a peach with the words: PEACHBLOOM VELOUR / MERRIMAC BODY / MADE OF IMPORTED FUR along with a tiny UNION MADE . Attached at the back is a size tag reading 22 . The "sweatband" inside is black fabric.
One thing about this hat is less than perfect, and it is a mystery. It was made with an attached veil -- most of which is torn away. We are guessing that probably this damage occurred in the store, so it was packed away and never sold. We have left this "as found" (so it can be exactly replaced if desired) but what remains of the veil could easily be snipped away and never missed.
The box is clearly original, from the Fowler's Department Store in Binghamton, New York. It is in excellent condition, and displays very well with NO rips, tears, crushed or bent corners. There is a scattering of light brown spots on the upper right corner (SEE PHOTOS) but nothing else.
We were very interested in the thistle logo and motto printed on the box and found our answer about it in the online encyclopedia Wikipedia: "Nemo me impune lacessit" is the Latin motto of the Order of the Thistle and of three Scottish regiments of the British Army. The motto also appears, in conjunction with the collar of the Order of the Thistle, in later versions of the Royal coat of arms of the Kingdom of Scotland and subsequently in the version of the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom used in Scotland. It is often translated as “No one attacks me with impunity.”
