New York Central RR Dietz No. 999 Brakeman's Hand Lantern - USA POSTAGE INCLUDED!

This Dietz No. 999 railroad brakeman’s hand lantern came from the New York Central Systems. It is in as found condition, needing a bit of cleaning but nothing drastic and it will display well as is. It is boldly stamped N.Y.C.S. on the lid. On top of the smoke dome it is stamped with the Dietz oval logo in the center, and around the edge NO. 999 KEROSENE NEW YORK, U.S.A.

The wire bottom frame is good, sound, strong and straight. There are no warps or twists, and no breaks anywhere. It is in a single coat of old black paint over the original tin. There is light chipping over most of the paint, which has protected the lantern from rust. The pot and burner are correct. The burner is a clearly marked “Dietz Convex”. The wick raiser works well but the pot will need a little coaxing to remove it from the lantern.

The globe is a shorty style, 3-1/2 inches tall and clear glass with only the expected light rim scuffs from wear. There are no RR markings on the globe. The globe is cast with the Corning Glass “Cnx” logo at the top, and at the bottom is lightly cast MADE IN U.S.A.
