This lantern is sound and solid with a good straight wire bottom frame. It is stamped THE ADAMS & WESTLAKE CO. and RUTLAND R.R. in block letters around the lid at the base of the smoke dome. On the very bottom is stamped ADLAKE-KERO 1931 which is the model and date of manufacture, along with several American and Canadian patent numbers.
The 3-1/2-inch "shorty" globe is crystal clear and has only the most minor, expected rim scuffs from use. It is embossed with the CNX logo of Corning Glass, its manufacturer, and ADLAKE KERO.
The handle on this lantern can be displayed in several positions. The "ears" on the frame are intact (they are often broken or missing). Inside the smoke dome, the spring and fins have been replaced. The thumb latch is in working order.
Inside, the pot is correctly an Adlake #300 in "new old stock" condition. The wick raiser is in perfect working order.
Lanterns from the Rutland RR are increasingly harder to find in any condition. This one would be a star addition to any collection of quality railway hand lanterns, especially for a railfan who enjoys Vermont, New York or New England lines.
