This china celery dish is from the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad (the famous “Milwaukee Road” line). It is a generous 10 inches long, 4-3/4 inches wide and 1-1/4 inches tall. The pattern is “Traveler,” depicting fast-flying Canada geese (in pink-!) winging over the mountains.

Condition is nearly mint -- beautifully bright with absolutely no damage other than the lightest few utensil marks which can’t be seen unless you tilt it in bright light and look hard for them. It is backstamped Syracuse China BB-7 (date code for July 1947) without any rail road backstamp, which is correct because Traveler was an "exclusive" pattern:

Syracuse China contracted to produce and sell the design only to the Milwaukee Road and no one else. Accordingly, Traveler pieces without railway markings are fully documented and absolutely authentic.

This piece is a must for any collection of Milwaukee Road or other vintage RR passenger dining car items, especially a celery trough collection.
