"Red Poppy" is an endearing and popular pattern that Hall made from the 1930s through the 1950s. Much of this ware was distributed as premiums through the Grand Union Tea Company. Larger pieces are quite common but smaller pieces (such as these shakers) are much harder to find.
PLEASE NOTE these shakers are not perfect: (1) The silver top stripe is absolutely perfect on the Pepper; on the Salt the stripe is nearly perfect except for approximately 1 inch along one side (PLEASE SEE CLOSE-UP PHOTOS!). (2) There is a small chip on the underside of the bottom rim of the Pepper, which does not show unless the shaker is turned over. (3) Three of the holes on the top of the Salt have tiny chips, but they have absolutely no discoloration and are scarcely noticeable unless you look carefully (AGAIN, PLEASE SEE CLOSE-UP PHOTOS)!
Both shakers have what must be their original corks but they are pushed inside, and we have not attempted to remove them.
Please note that in our 2001 "Hall China" guide by Whitmyer, a pair of Red Poppy teardrop shakers is valued at between $36 and $44. This set would be a nice addition to a collection of Hall China, and work work very well until a "mint" condition set came along.
