This very heavy ware resembles flow blue because the blue is “bleeding” here and there on the very heavy white china. Both pieces have a good clear Hampton Casino logo.
According to Dining on Rails (Luckin) the EH&A RR owned and operated the Hampton, New Hampshire hotel / restaurant / casino where this china was used. Made by Greenwood China, this pattern never carried any railroad markings in addition to the casino markings.
The cup, which has no bottom marks at all, has no damage except a very few lightest scratches (must turn it in bright light to see them) and a few very light, small age spots around the rim. There is a tiny mold flaw inside on the bottom that cannot be seen unless the cup is looked into.
The saucer is a full 6 inches across and is in very nice condition with only minimal light utensil marks in the well. It is bottom marked with the impressed logo of the Greenwood China Company, Trenton, New Jersey. The saucer also has light age spots here and there around the rim edge.
According to The Trolley and Interurban Directory (Gross), the EH&A operated over approximately 20 miles of track. Organized in 1899 with headquarters in Exeter, New Hampshire, the company reorganized in 1908 with new general offices in Hampton, New Hampshire, and finally went out of business in 1911. This old set would make an unusual addition to any collection of early railroad china, antique casino or even gambling items.
