Let me give you an idea about the contents of "Salute". The first page is called "Gold Stars" with a photo of employee, Sgt. Vincent Brinkerhoff, who was killed in action in the invasion of France. Followed is page two which lists those who were recently were killed in the line of duty protecting their country. Then a little further in "Salute" are several pages called "Wishing You a Merry Christmas" from the 18th Floor. This section has employees writing a short Xmas Greeting which were for those currently serving at home and overseas.
The next section consists of lighthearted jokes to bring a laugh and a smile to everyone. The next section is called "Mail Call" -- Letters from our Men and Women in the Armed Services. On page 40 is a page called "Little Old New York” written by the one and only Ed Sullivan of TV fame. The next section has photos of F.W. Woolworth employees serving in the military.
The next section is quite neat and is called "Our Pin-Up Girls" Manageresses of Manhattan District Stores. Next there is a "Poet's Corners" -- Poems written by employees. Next section is called "Manager's Changes" store manager changes made throughout stores in New Jersey and New York Stores. Next is a list of those who were promoted in Rank while on duty.
And the final section is called "691-In-Service”, The 691 is the Woolworth store number. On these pages are the names of all employees, the Branch of Service, and the P.O. location were you can send off letters and small gifts for them to enjoy for Christmas of 1944.
