Bishop of Louisiana and friend of Jefferson Davis. Fought at Shiloh, Murfreesboro, and Chickamauga. Killed by a cannon ball June 14, 1864.

Back mark: "Published by E. & H. T. Anthony, 501 Broadway. New York. From Photographic Negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery." Double-line border, corners clipped, as was commonly done to insert a CDV into paper frames of albums. Small section of lower right corner of the image gone, but otherwise appears to be in fine condition. Inscribed, "L Polk" in pencil below the image.
