Pink lustre decorated souvenir china miniature pitcher or creamer with vignette view of "Avalon Bay, Catalina Island, Calif.". Clear image showing buildings, piers, boats and ships, beach, amphitheater and other landmarks still present today. The well-known Catalina Casino dance pavilion can be seen under construction across the bay. This image helps date this souvenir pitcher reliably to 1928, as Sugarloaf Rock still stands tall at the end of the point. That landmark was blasted away in March, 1929, to enhance the ocean view for the new Casino building, which opened May 29, 1929.
Nice coloring in the image and nice pink lustre glaze around top of pitcher. This piece is in excellent condition, with only some very minor wear to the gold line surrounding the image. No maker's marks. Measures 2 3/8 inches tall, 4 inches across from spout and handle, 3 inches across base.
