Anthony Carte de Visite Confederate Civil War General John Hunt Morgan

A cavalry officer, Morgan fought at the Battle of Shiloh but he is perhaps best known for 'Morgan's Raid,' an action in July of 1863 in which he lead Confederate troops into the farthest northern penetration made by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Killed by Union forces in Greeneville, Tennessee, September 4, 1864.

This and other Confederate Civil War CDV's in my shop were all found in one individual Carte de Visite album, along with the personal photos of a Texas family. If you buy more than one at the same time they can be shipped in the same package to save you money on shipping/insurance costs. Back mark: E. and H.T. Anthony backstamp. 501 Broadway, New York, "Manufacturers of the best Photographic Albums." Gold double-line border, corners clipped, as was commonly done to CDV's for inserting them into the paper frames of albums. Small surface cut to right cheek which is not visible straight-on, with the naked eye, but which I noticed when examining the surface of the CDV under magnification. See up-close image taken with a raking light across the surface to reveal it. Otherwise appears to be in fine condition. Inscribed, "Morgan" in pencil below the image.
