SALE Amazing 11 1/2'' Majolica Two Handled Platter / Tray with Berries or Nuts ~ Unattributed England ca 1880’s
This piece has remarkable colors and nice shinny glaze. The rim looks like a branches that have been fasten by vines keeping them together. The handles are shaped like branches and extend down onto the piece ending with beautiful raised relief green leaves and berries or nuts. The main background color is a soft beige with just a hint of pinkish purple on the rims. A similar piece is in Mike Schneider 1990 Majolica book. He states that these are strawberries and that the berries looked like that before the hybrids. I will let you decide what they are! The piece has a hairline crack that is more noticeable on the back and it also has a small flake which has been c=glued back on. Please see pictures. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE IRONSTONE OR EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE
Backstamp: None
Measures 11 ½” L
