SALE Large 17” German Delft Wall Portrait Charger ~ Flow Blue ~ Young Couple ~ Signed by "Dingendorf" ~ FRANZ ANTON MEHLEM EARTHENWARE FACTORY (Bonn, Germany) 1885-1920
The plate is in a Delft style with a wonderful three dimensional monochromatic blue and white color giving a nice flow blue appearance. The reverse side shows the blue coming through the earthenware. It has wonderful cream colored flowers on a blue background for the rim decoration. The center of the charger depicts a couple resting against a building; the woman appears to be listening to the young man as she works with her yarn. They are dressed in Dutch attire down to the wooden shoes. There is a carriage in the background with some chickens wondering about. The artist Dingendorf has signed the lower edge of the massive piece of earthenware. An extra note should be made on the Delftware produced by Mehlem, especially the larger plates (chargers). The quality reproductions of Delftware were so good that even Delft workers respectfully referred to the pieces as 'German Delft'. The pictures have some glare and red marks, trust me this a pristine piece and you would be very happy with it! There are chips, hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
