SALE OUTSTANDING American Belleek Chocolate Pot or Coffee Pot~ Hand Painted with Pink Roses ~ Artist Signed ~ LENOX - CERAMIC ART Co. Trenton, NJ - ca 1896 - 1906
This chocolate/coffee pot is absolutely breathtaking and truly a piece of art. I’m wondering why the artist did not sign this, it is just unbelievable. She has chosen muted pastel colors for the background giving it a dreamy appearance. The artist has left the spout; handle and finial a soft creamy color making them stand out from the beautiful artwork. On one side of the pot side she has painted a spray of fully bloomed pink rose with petals that are so three dimensional it is phenomenal. One of the roses is a softer white with pink overtones and the other is a deeper richer pink color. She has added several additional roses and buds emerging from the spray on long stems that wrap down and around the bulbous base. Around the roses she has painted various colors of green leaves, with some giving a shadowy effect and placed them on brown and green thorn stems. She has added golden accents around the spout, handle, rims and finial of this piece. The lid and upper portion of the bulbous base is slightly fluted giving it a wonderful look. On the other side she has placed a soft white colored rose with a pink center amongst the green leaves and brown stems. This is a very unique shaped piece and we have been unable to find one similar. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
Ceramic Art Company (Lenox) - In 1889, Walter Scott Lenox left Willets Belleek and went into partnership with Jonathan Coxon, superintendent of Ott & Brewer, and founded the Ceramic Art Company (CAC). This partnership lasted until the spring of 1896 when Coxon sold his interest to Lenox. The company continued as the Ceramic Art Company with the word "Lenox" added beneath the CAC mark. The company was an early producer of American Belleek porcelain. In February 1906, the name of the company was changed to Lenox, Inc. It is one of the few Trenton potteries from the 19th century that has survived to the present.
