A Perfect Rose!
I've been trying for years to grow a rose like this in my garden!
This is one of those odd in-between purses that is definitely either a Mandalian or a Whiting Davis but I cannot be sure which.
It is simply marked ELSAH.
Here is what I know:
The design, especially the frame and the old ring loops (rather than spiral wire) is distinctly Mandalian.
The name ELSAH was the name Whiting Davis gave to their "top of the line" purses.
Whiting Davis did buy out Mandalian and purchase all their equipment.
My best guess is that this may be one of the very first purses produced by Whiting Davis using Mandalian's equipment.
Either way it's a stunner!
Set on a buttercream background is a rose in the height of blossom in shades of magenta and pink.
Three little rosebuds are also on the leafy stem and this lovely depiction is framed in a picture frame of leaf green.
Measures 4 1/4 inches across the frame and 7 1/4 inches from top of clasp to tip of fringe.
The Van Dyke fringe is impeccably coordinated
Era: 1910-1925
Wearability Condition: Could definitely be carried but would not be very practical due to historical value and delicacy.
Display Condition: Perfect Vintage Condition
This is one of the nicest I've seen!
Item ID: VP-537
