A small and delicate 9k rose gold locket from the Victorian era is ornamented on both front and reverse. The front showcases a polychromatic enamel arrangement of botanicals with blooms of morning glory, larkspur and hibiscus reveling in all their glorious colors. The reverse displays lovely detailed hand engravings of a shield motif surrounded by foliate designs. Hinged, the locket opens to contain a cherished token or photograph.

Measurements: 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length not including bale and 1-5/16 inches (3.3 cm) with by 13/16 of an inch (2.1 cm) in width by 1/4 of an inch (0.7 cm) in depth. This antique locket has a weight of 6.2 grams (4.0 dwt).

Condition: Very good; one minute hole where the engraving is a bit too deep that only shows from the inside or when viewed with a loupe. Interior has an added reinforcing plate for the back with some silver solder evident; front inside cover reveals the enamel ground which is as it was constructed. One inner rim has been replaced with a new plastic insert.

Date: Circa 1880

Overall Scale: Small

Item ID: 11714
