Designed as jewelry for the hair, fine, hand-crafted combs and other ornaments reached its heyday in the mid to late Victorian era. Mechanization allowed for the burgeoning middle-class lady to afford more ornate hair ornamentation for her French twist or coiled chignon affixed with a bejeweled hair comb.

Simple yet elegant, this beautifully decorated three-prong comb is made of blonde horn. Sleek and sensuous, it is capped with 18 to 20k yellow gilded metal hollow work adorned with repoussé decoration of the romantic style. The base attaching the scrolled top element to the horn is of solid 18k yellow gold. Just the perfect accessory for display or wear.

Condition: Excellent

Measurements: 4-1/2 inches (11.1 cm) in length by 1-1/2 inches (3.7 cm) at the widest by 15/16 of an inch (2.3 cm) in width at the comb. This antique comb has a weight of 13.6 grams (8.7 dwt).
