Maker & Age: Czech/Austrian (European); early 1900s

Details: This shiny white glazed bank is truly a marvel -- the clay is especially thin for a utilitarian bank (weighing only 3 ounces), so to survive for over 100 years without any damage is quite a feat; in fact this bank is very lucky to remain in one piece, let alone without chips or cracks, and only a tiny bit of crazing near the coin slot! The bank was fired at an unusually high temperature as evidenced by the glossy look to the exposed clay on the bottom, a look that is similar to other high temperature fired pieces such as porcelain. I believe the face depicts an individual from one of the South American indian groups. The style of the feathered headpiece and the look of the person's countenance conveys a sense of strong leadership and wisdom. The level of detail is especially uncommon in a ceramic bank.

I think it is safe to say that the bank was never used to collect coins; possibly it was simply displayed in a cabinet or stored as a salesman sample in a canvassing kit that was carried from household to household for potential customers to view. Very few of these banks over 100 years old remain and you don't tend to find them for sale unless a discriminating collector decides to part with some of his prized possessions.

Dimensions: 3.25" high X 3" wide X 2.75" front to back

Condition: Excellent -- remarkably no chips, cracks or other damage! There's a bit of light crazing near the coin slot.

Shipping: The bank will be shipped via USPS Priority mail with insurance. Check below the picture for the domestic shipping charge. International customers, please inquire about availability and cost of insured shipping to your location.
