Details: A very interesting pig-in-a-poke* bank with a rich green glaze. On the basis of the clay color and the long piggy snout, finishing techniques, etc., my opinion is that the bank was made by the Roseville Pottery Company. The light color is consistent with the early Roseville productions and the Roseville pig snouts tended to be long and narrow like this one, giving the face a dog-like appearance. What appears to be "May 1906 10" (cents) was written on the bottom of the bank by a previous owner.
*From the pages of Wikipedia, this is a very old "idiom that refers to a confidence trick originating in the Late Middle Ages, when meat was scarce but apparently rats and cats were not. The scheme entailed the sale of a 'suckling pig' in a 'poke' (bag). The wriggling bag would actually contain a cat — not particularly prized as a source of meat — that was sold to the victim in an unopened bag."
Dimensions: 4" long X 2.75" high X 2" wide
Condition: Very nice. There is an unglazed spot on the pig's nose where a bubble in the glaze/clay burst after the glazing process, leaving the clay exposed. Otherwise, no chips, cracks or other damage (amazingly).
Shipping: The bank will be shipped via USPS Priority mail with insurance. Check below the picture for the domestic shipping charge. International customers, please inquire about availability and cost of insured shipping to your location.
