Details: This is one of Roseville's resting/sleeping buffalo banks in a shiny mauve-flavored light brown and black-green glaze on the body and head respectively, made especially for the Buffalo, New York exposition of 1901 and thus shows the impressed mark "EXPO 1901" on the buffalo's haunches. Very, very few of these remain after 107 years, let alone in outstanding condition, and they are rarely seen for sale as the few remaining are already in the hands of discriminating Roseville collectors. This was perhaps a salesman sample from a canvassing kit that was carried from household to household for potential customers to view.
The bottom of the bank shows the light colored clay used in Roseville's very early pieces, as opposed to their later, more familiar pottery-ware using the yellowish colored clay. (A previous owner's reference #767 is left taped to the bottom of the bank.)
Dimensions: 6.25" long X 3.25" high X 2.25" wide
Condition: Excellent!
Shipping: The bank will be shipped via USPS Priority mail with insurance. Check below the picture for the domestic shipping charge. International customers, please inquire about availability and cost of insured shipping to your location.
