~Rosenquist Art-Porcelains~ many exquisite 'One-of-a-Kind' Masterpieces Handpainted over a Century ago by Victorian Artists
Speaking of DAFFODILS........
This is an unusually lovely and elegant antique hand painted Nippon DAFFODIL or JONQUILS stein. It is a beautiful combination of soft blues, yellows and whites against a soft, almost bisque quality blue fading to creamy yellow background. The daffodil flower, or narcissus, petals have been beautifully outlined with delicate gold edges. Please notice the raised goldwork and gold beaded patterns within the intricate hand-painted bandwork on the top of the mug. The beaded handle has also been painted in gold. It is an unusually elegant hand crafted Japanese Nippon stein. The height is 5" and the base diameter is 4". The condition of the artwork is excellent. The top of the stein has two very tiny fleabites beneath the gold paint (possibly original), and there is a very faint "glaze" hairline on the inside near the handle ~ quite difficult to even notice. It is only surface/glaze deep and not a serious structural hairline which goes through to the other side of the porcelain. In fact, we never noticed until we carefully examined the piece for listing. This is a rare and unusual piece and we feel these minor flaws do not detract at all from the artistic value- but should be mentioned here for complete accuracy. The stein is marked on bottom with a green M inside a wreath with the words "HAND PAINTED NIPPON". This was originally from Morimura Bros. who imported both chinoiserie and Japanese objects d arts and operated in New York City between 1875 and the early 20th Century.
