~Rosenquist Art-Porcelains~ many exquisite 'One-of-a-Kind' Masterpieces Handpainted over a Century ago by Victorian Artists
ORIGINAL JAPANESE PEONY OIL PAINTING FLORAL STILL LIFE DATED 1933
'PINK PEONIES' . A Rosenquist family heirloom painting. This is an original oil painting on canvas of 'PINK PEONY FLOWERS IN A POTTERY VASE', by a Japanese floral artist and art teacher, circa 1933. This masterful painting has large Japanese hand painted lettering which covers nearly the entire back of the painting. It has been in the Rosenquist family since the 1930's and was originally given as a gift to our Great Grandmother Rosenquist from her Japanese art teacher. We remember being told by our Great Grandmother that it was painted by a very well known Japanese floral artist and art teacher of that time period, with whom she had studied. But unfortunately, we do not recall the artist's name, and have been unable to find artist signed initials nor a signature. According to a contemporary Japanese artist, who recently translated the Japanese handwriting for The Rosenquist Collection, the Oriental inscription on the back reads:
"MAY 1933 Fixture of Yokosuka Navy Hospital"
Excellent Condition. 22-1/4" x 18-1/2" including the original wood frame.
