~Rosenquist Art-Porcelains~ many exquisite 'One-of-a-Kind' Masterpieces Handpainted over a Century ago by Victorian Artists
'THE STILL FURLED ROSE' circa 1900. A most romantic depiction of a yet-to-open Pink & Butter Cream Pastel Tea Rose & Rosebud upon an antique hand painted Limoges Floral Art Plate, completely handpainted at the Turn-of-the-Century by a late 19th Century Victorian Period porcelain artist, or an early 20th Century Edwardian Era china painter. The name of the artist is unknown.
Still wrapped tightly in their buds, the roses of this softly painted composition reveal, only petal by petal, their full-bloom color. Some of the most beautiful roses in Great-Grandmother Rosenquist's garden were those that started out as one color in the bud and wound up a completely different color in full bloom. This artist from a Century ago has captured this now heirloom variety rose as it transitions from dark pink through pale pink to sunny yellow, bright and golden against a nest of dark green foliage. Similarly, the background of this plate begins in a shadowy forest green, then blends through light aqua and blue, into lemon-lime and finally to yellow, echoing the mature rose petals. A bright and cheerful painting, this plate superbly captures the many variations of the rose garden palette, making a striking porcelain painting either for solo display or part of a floral montage.
Excellent condition, sterling investment quality vintage Art-Porcelain, with the china painting perfectly preserved within a lustrous glass overglaze finish. 8-1/2" Diameter FRENCH LIMOGES FLORAL DECORATIVE ARTS PLATE. Bears a French 'D&C FRANCE' pottery underglaze hallmark (aka Gaston's Mark # 3 used between 1894 and 1900) of Delinieres & Co. of Limoges, France.
'WHAT IS LIMOGES?' The Rosenquist Collection is often asked this question by visitors who are yet unfamiliar with this beautiful old artform upon vintage French porcelain. Over the last several generations, exquisitely hand painted porcelains became a somewhat forgotten artform, which is now gaining a world-wide appreciative audience once again, and is becoming very highly collectible as an arts & collectibles investment. The key to investment success, and also to acquiring the most beautiful collection, is to only invest in the very highest quality of artwork available, and to avoid anything less. This, in the long run, will give the greatest return on investment, as is true with all art and antiques investments. Inferior quality investments may cost less, but they always appreciate much less as well.
