'LEMON BLOSSOMS OF ITALY'. This 150 year old Italian Ginori Floral Art Citus Fruit Plate, hand painted in Milan Italy c.1850, reminds us of visits to the Isle of Capri and especially to the magnificent 'Lemon Coast' of Sorrento, Italy with its breathtaking cliffside views of the azure blue Mediterranean Sea...... and of a dreamy afternoon sipping espresso beneath a sun umbrella at a tiny trattoria perched above the sea. Especially memorable are the gentle wafts of lemon blossom fragrance in the air from lemon tree in a nearby garden...... One can only imagine this same ancient seaside setting 150 years earlier when this very special lemon plate was created in Milan.
A rare antique hand painted Italian Ginori Floral Art Fruit Plate, c.1850, completely handpainted in Milan, Italy during the mid 19th Century by a highly skilled professional porcelain artist, who signed this old treasure: 'C. Nute'. This talented china painter worked for the world famous Richard Ginori porcelain company. High quality vintage Italian Ginori porcelain is comparable to the 'hard paste' porcelains produced in Limoges, France during the mid to late 19th Century. The decorative French and Italian handpainted artistry of Limoges, France and Milan, Italy is quite comparable in artistic quality and beauty, and is prized by many cross collectors of both antique Art-Porcelains. Both types of china are made of highly durable 'hard paste' porcelain, which tends not to 'craze' with age, as does 'soft paste' porcelain and bone china. This lovely LEMON BLOSSOM PLATE is approximately 150 years old, according to Kovel's 'Book of Marks' information regarding porcelain backstamp symbols and hallmarks The plate is lavishly painted with 19th Century Coin Gold upon the elegant scalloped edge. In any setting, this cheerful citrus fruit still life china painting is a definite room-brightener, for which we affectionately say: 'Brava, Bellissima!'
