A fabulous example in what we are sure is mid Victorian coin silver. This is a rare back hair comb, in a bowed shape with thirty two tines, none are missing or broken. The top of the comb is scalloped, and the bridge is engraved with wonderful foliate designs of trailing tree branches and leaves. In the center of the bridge is an engraved, whimsical bumblebee. The comb is just over 1 1/2" tall and measures 4 1/2" in length. Please note the very tiny, beaded, gadrooned backround. This is a back comb, from the period 1840 -1860. Condition is excellent, with no dents or dings, no missing silver, no missing tines and no damage, it is fantastic, completely worked by hand. The piece is unmarked, silver was not required to be marked in this country until about 1860. It is a very rare and fine example with exquisite workmanship, and a choice piece for the serious collector. Circa 1850.
