Exquisite Victorian sterling silver tussie mussie posey holder, or porte bouquet. Superbly repoussed in the Art Nouveau style of the nineteenth century period in which it was made, with trailing lillies, scrolling cartouches, and tiny repoussed lily pads at the tip of the handle with trailing stems going up the sides. This rare and glorious posey holder is dated 1882 on one side, and 1907(?) on the other, it was likely given in celebration of a very special anniversary, perhaps a silver wedding anniversary, as the piece is after all, silver. It is marked Sterling on both sides, a rare, American Art Nouveau example. This hand held tussie mussie has it's original ring to hang from a chatelaine, it measures 4 3/4" in length and is in wonderful condition, with one tiny dent along the rim and just a bit of wear to the 1907 cartouche, making it hard to read the last number, which we do believe is a seven. The interior of the piece has a gold wash, with some wear to the inside gilded finish from use and age. A very beautiful example of a petite porte bouquet in American sterling silver.
