Lovely Art Deco RS Prussia Germany inkwell handpainted with pink wild roses and pale green leaves against a soft blue backround. The edge of the lid has been beautifully gilded with a band of gold. This fabulous and rather rare piece was painted on their blank by a talented china painter around 1915. The work is skillfully and delicately painted. Marked with the RS Germany wreath & star in blue, a mark used by the RS Prussia factory on mostly Art Deco era wares around WW1. It stands 2 1/2" tall and measures 3" square, with softly rounded, paneled corners. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or hairlines. There is a tiny factory flaw on the bottom of the piece, right at the tiny factory hole molded to let steam escape during the firing process so the piece would not burst in the kiln. The piece was not made with a removable insert, the well reservoir is very fine, white porcelain. Porcelain inkwells made by the Schlegelmilch factory are very sought after since they are scarce, and this is a gorgeous example.
