Entirely elegant antique Limoges cabinet plate with hand painted flower sprays and heavy Roman coin gold overlay. At first we thought these delicate mixed floral bouquets were transfers, but they are hand painted. The artist has also painted elaborate French gold work all over this piece, from the raised gilt and turquoise "jeweled" star center medallion to the very highly raised gold adornments along the edge. In turn, all of the gold work features tiny beaded jewels painted on top of it and alternates with more of the turquoise beads. The outer edge of the plate is painted gold and embellished with French fleur de lis. This exquisite French plate is studio decorated and marked for GDA France, (Gerard, Dufraisseix and Abbot). This mark was used starting in 1900. This piece was very labor intensive to paint and is a magnificent work on Limoges porcelain. The plate to us looks very much in the style of Sevres. We note six of the turquoise jewels missing on the center medallion and one missing along the edge. No damage, a truly superb example of nineteenth century French gold work, and of course the gold work is perfect with no wear. The plate measures 9 3/4" in diameter.
