SALE Limoges Fish Charger French Gilt Rococo 13 1/4" Wall Plaque Artist Signed Bay
Antiques : Ceramics, Porcelain : Limoges : Plates & Chargers : Fish
Outstanding Limoges huge fish charger wall plaque. There are fish plates, and there are magnificent French examples such as this one, rarely seen and simply exquisite. This large, 13 1/4" diameter French charger features a very heavily gilded Rococo edge, smothered in Roman coin gold. Two large, exuberant fish are painted cavorting in an underwater scene with undulating sea kelp. The palette of colors is unusual, salmon, blue, teal, yellow, green, lavender and pink, with every inch of the piece covered. The charger is completely hand painted, and signed by nineteenth century listed French studio artist, Bay. Bay has captured the essence and personality of this mischievous pair of fish as they appear ready to leap out of the water and right off of the piece. This incredible Limoges charger is marked on the reverse for Flambeau Limoges, France. It is in absolutely mint, excellent condition with no damage and no wear to the lavishly gilded Rococo edge. A true wall plaque, with factory drilled holes, this piece is ready to hang and admire. It was meant for display only, and from it's superb condition it was obviously only displayed and very well cared for over the last 120 years as a treasured work of art of the highest quality. It's large size and rarely seen painting make this a real show piece, commanding attention and demanding to be noticed and admired. As we said, there are fish plates, and then there is this superlative nineteenth century art painting on French porcelain, signed by master Limoges studio artist, Bay. Circa 1890.
