Sensational Limoges double stag French gilt plate hand painted at Edward W. Donath Studios. Edward Donath was a china painter at the Pickard Studios until opening his own studio in 1897. He worked for Pickard again from 1903-1905, and again opened his own studio in 1905, where he found success. This stag plate bears Donath's paper label guarantee of hand painting, used from 1906-1910. It is also marked EW Donath Handpainted China and JPL France (Jean Pouyat Limoges France) Patented Jan. 23, 1906. The hand painted painting on porcelain depicts two stags along opposite sides of a heavily forested river, staking out their territory. The plate features an exquisite gold beaded rim, gilded with Roman gold. It measures 9 3/4" in diameter and is in excellent condition with no damage and no wear to the richly painted, lavish gold rim. Signed by professional Donath Studio artist, H. Heidrich. Circa 1906.
