Stunning deep cobalt fish plate, lavishly gilded with gold and completely handpainted. This magnificent plate has had a repair to the rim, please see picture #7. Although not perfect, this exquisite piece displays beautifully. It features a pair of handpainted fish and underwater scene in the center. The rim is vivid cobalt with gold painted sea kelp, seaweed, and a trio of gold fish. The rim is scalloped, making the repair hard to notice. The plate is marked with the CFH GDA France factory underglaze mark, and Charles Field Haviland Limoges overglaze decorator mark. It is unsigned, but you can see the talent of the artist, as the fish appear to be in motion, swimming thru golden sea kelp. The plate measures 8 1/2" in diameter and has no cracks, or hairlines, but does have the repair previously mentioned. Circa 1900. In mint condition, this piece would be highly sought after, and we have discounted it proportionately.
