Beautiful Victorian sterling silver and intaglio cut glass powder jar. A fabulous piece for the Edwardian vanity, this powder jar has a sterling silver lid with neo-classical repousse design. It is monogrammed with a "C" in ornate Victorian script. A deep border has been cut into the edge, with tiny gadrooning inside. The rim is repoussed with a lovely Art Nouveau leafy garland. The jar features a deeply rayed bottom and is intaglio cut all around the sides with thistle, flowers, and leaves. An alternating thumbprint design is intaglio cut above the flowers. The sterling lid measures 4 1/2" across and the piece stands 1 3/4" tall. The lid is marked International, with a maker's mark, and Sterling. This powder jar is in pristine condition, with no chips, cracks, or hairlines, and the glass is clear and brilliant. There are no dents or dings in the sterling silver lid. A magnificent presentation for your vanity table or dresser. Circa 1890.
