This is an outstanding example of a Victorian fire engine is one of a series of
Stevengraphs we are privileged to offer to collectors of silk textiles or fire related items.
The silk is in wonderful condition and appears to be a painting rather then a woven silk. It
depicts four horses racing with the fire engine and firemen to a three story house aflame.
It is mounted in its original titled matte which has slight discoloration in the upper right
corner. The silk itself is in marvelous condition - bright colors add to the appeal. Note the
detail of the firemens faces. Directly below the silk we see the wording “woven in silk by
Thomas Stevens inventor and manufacturer, Coventry and London (registered).
The silk itself measures six inches by two inches. Overall the framed silk is six inches by
nine inches. Fortunately, the paper on the back remains intact. Most collectors value this
addition to the original. Many papers were discarded as unimportant. It is one of the
things we look for, because it adds to the value.
