What a fabulous find this was! And of course, I was in Miami, land of the dog tracks, where I purchased two wonderful old greyhound racing games. This one is quite old, set in a wooden case, mahogany I believe. The wooden box doesn't open, the game is just at 11" by 9" and it stands 1.75" tall. Under the glass in the case are racing greyhounds in various colored blankets, each with a different number and assorted bookmaker odds. This paper game board shows the words "Greyhound Track" as well as "For Amusement Only" and "Patent Pending". Beneath this, set in a well in the wood box, you find a metal roulette wheel which contains two die, or dice. While I can't feel them, from the look they are likely bone or perhaps ivory. There is a metal push lever that spins the roulette wheel, and the dice go round and round--amazing that it works after all these years! I've done extensive research on this fabulous old piece, and I can't find anything like it. It has good age to it obviously, and I believe it most likely dates to the 1920's or so. The paper with the dogs on has some rippling, and there is soil underneath the glass. There is a minor chip in the wood beneath the upper left corner, and that corner has a bit of play in the wood as well, but nothing that affects the structural integrity. Please forgive the glare on the glass, it's light reflection only. The bottom of the game board is solid wood as well, and it stands on four hard rubber feet. The piece weighs just at 3 pounds, very sturdy and substantial. A stunning and unusual (I always hate to use the word rare...) old game, a tremendous display and find for any gambling afficionado!
