Vintage tobacco tin, Arabian scene with horse, c. 1920

Here's a lovely antique tobacco tin, dating the the early 1920's with a fabulous and colorful image of an Egyptian desert scene. I don't normally carry tobacco tins, but I was drawn to this one because of it's super graphics. You'll notice a pyramid and the Sphinx in the background, and an Arabian warrior astride his horse, being handed a cigarette by a robe clad man. Sitting on the stone wall are two other gentleman dressed in desert regalia, one smoking a cigarette and the other with a hookah! The brand "Abadie Flor" is written on the lid and on two sides of this hinged tin. Measuring 4" by 6.25", it's an Austrian brand of tobacco and the image depicts the European fascination with all things Orientalist during the early 1900's. There is some surface oxidation on the edges and a few shallow dents to the lid, which are really only visible when the tin is turned to the light just right. A wonderful addition to a tin collection.
