Antiques : Horse Lap Robe

 

Made to keep the chill of during the horse and buggy days, lap or carriage robes are so wonderfully versatile today, and look lovely hung on a wall or thrown over the back of a sofa. I normally do the animal ones, but when my friend Diane offered to sell me this floral one, I just couldn't resist. The colors are vibrant and true, with no fading. The central part of the sleigh blanket is accented on all four corners with a different flower pattern with a curving border. Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, it's in very good condition for it's age, with just minimal wear on the corners and it retains it's original CHASE label. A bit larger than some, it measures 55" by 66" and it's ready to adorn your home for the upcoming winter weather.
