I'm offering this as much for the frame as I am the chromolithograph that it contains. Together they make a totally wonderful combination. The lithograph is from the St. Louis Star Sayings newspaper, dated July 21, 1895. These color supplements were included in Sunday newspapers to give subscribers instant art, a lovely piece they could frame for their home. It's titled "Hello Stranger" and shows four fluffy kittens in an ornate Victorian chair, staring curiously at the dog below, who is looking back at them with equal curiosity. There is a small tear in the print at the dogs tail, which I have shown in one of the pictures. The frame--the frame is just gorgeous. It's a rich dark wood, and very deep, almost like a shadow box, measuring nearly 3" in to the glass. There are layers of wood with black, ebonized accents and the frame surrounding the print is a beautiful gold wood with an ornate decorative element. It measures 11.5" by 13.5" and is in wonderful condition for it's age. There is an old wire hanger on the back, which is topped with the original wood dust cover. Just a gorgeous old bit of Victoriana, with the added plus of a 104 year old lithograph.
