Large Victorian pair of fireplace ornaments, horses in brass

A stunning pair of Victorian hearth or mantel ornaments, two large facing horses done in brass. These elegant and stately stallions wear surcingles on their backs and bridles with reins, necks arched and tails carried high. I couldn't quite capture the warmth of the brass patina on these fabulous steeds, acquired over the past 100+ years, they have a mellow glow. Weighing in at over 10 pounds for the pair, they are quite large and beautifully balanced, 9.5" to the top of the neck, the same across the base. The base is 1.5" in depth, the horses stand proudly and secure on them. Looking at the pictures of the bottom of the base, you will see that one horse has lost his elaborate cap bolts that hide the screws, but of course this isn't evident when they are upright. The horse without them has a bit of play where he attaches to the base, but nothing to affect his secure stance. Lovely gems from Victorian England, it's a treat to have a pair, as so often they have been separated over the years, with individuals sold as doorstops. This is the first pair I've had in some time and I'm delighted to offer them here in my Ruby Lane shop.
