Antique pair of horses in brass, fireside ornaments

While I'm certain this this wonderful old pair of brass horses were originally intended as fireside ornaments, their size would make them outstanding as bookends as well. I'm always so thrilled when I can find them in a matching, complimentary set as these are, a beautiful facing pair. They are 9.5" across the base and they stand 6.5" tall, with the bases a bit over 2.5" in depth. Two gorgeous stallions complete with surcingles and elaborate bridles, they have a warm and mellow patina acquired over their many years--I believe they are Edwardian, so 1900-1910. The right horse has a slight lean to the front, only noticeable if you study it from the side, but mentioned for accuracy. They are quite heavy, weighing in at nearly 5 pounds for the pair. Both horses have a makers mark on the base, which I have pictured for you. Whether placed on a mantel or used to hold up books in your library, they are an elegant set!
