Different scenes of hunting dogs adorn each side of this wonderful old oil or kerosene lamp which dates to the early 1900's. When I found it, the top globe was gone, but it was such a stunning old piece that I bought it and had it electrified by my lamp shop. Now it lights in three ways, the bottom only, which is a gorgeous night light, the top only, or both the bottom and top together. The switch, which I've shown, is a fancy key shape, another perfect touch. One side of the lamp shows two dogs in hot pursuit of a stag as he leaps up on the banks of a river. One dog is racing up the bank, the other is swimming behind. The other side shows the dog with his catch, the antlered deer at his side. The lamp is wired in such a way as to enable you to display whichever side suits you. The brass base and the vase cap have developed a mellow patina over the years, and the base is quite ornate. The lamp has been topped with a beautiful silk shade, ribbed and nicely shaped, and it stands 21" tall to the top of the finial. It's a stellar piece, perfect for a hunter, fabulous for a lodge or country home, and these are often called Gone with the wind or GWTW lamps. It looks so good in my living room, I'm tempted to keep it. I have another parlor or oil lamp I will be listing, also with dog, this one electrified, but with the original top globe, so do check back.
